JINGOLI provided complete pre-construction and construction management services for the new 72,000 square foot Union County Juvenile Detention Facility located in a light-industrial area in Linden, New Jersey. The new facility has a ton of natural light thanks to ample use of glass to allow views to the outside. Handrails and doors are wooden instead of metal. Toilets and sinks are separate from sleeping rooms with privacy in mind. 

The high-impact glass was used instead of steel-barred windows to replace overt signs of security. Staff members use swipe cards to enter and exit different areas, removing the use of keys. Classrooms are along a walled glass corridor, so teachers never feel isolated.

The new 76-bed facility features a circular design, with 16 and 12-bed housing units arranged around a day room. In addition to the outdoor recreation yard, there is also a small basketball court and a half-scale gym. The project was completed in April of 2008.
