Jingoli Power LLC and Burns & McDonnell Engineering Company Inc will be in charge of building the onshore transmission system for the 1,100-MW Ocean Wind 1 project off New Jersey.
Denmark’s Ørsted A/S (CPH:ORSTED) and US-based Public Service Enterprise Group Inc (NYSE:PEG), the owners of the project, on Monday said they have signed engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contracts covering the installation of two high-voltage substations and a nine-mile underground cable network.
More specifically, Jingoli Power will install an underground export cable from the landfall to the onshore substation in Upper Township and engineer and install a duct bank/manhole system to house the export cables. Burns & McDonnell, meanwhile, will build a new substation in Upper Township and install a substation at Oyster Creek, as well as an underground export cable from the landfall to the onshore electric substation.
The Ocean Wind farm will be built 15 miles (24.1km) off the coast of southern New Jersey and will be capable of producing electricity for 500,000 local homes a year. GE Renewable Energy was selected to supply its 12-MW Haliade-X turbines for the huge project, while the agreement signed early in 2021 has an option for using the 13-MW variant of the machines. Once completed, this will be New Jersey’s first offshore wind farm.
Construction works on the project are set to begin in September 2023. Project engineering was launched in the first quarter of 2022.
