McCarter Switchyard Enclosure Wall

Location

Newark, New Jersey

PSE&G hired JINGOLI to perform all site work, electrical duct banks, and foundations for the new McCarter Switching Station. The project required the installation of 13kV/26kV duct bank, manhole, and cable trench system on the property, which also included (10) precast, large manholes, and (2) poured-in-place 4-way manholes. Additionally, it included bringing a 69kV system to the site, via duct banks and (2) new 69kV manholes, grounding grid, storm drainage and equipment, and GIS Building foundations. After the work was completed, JINGOLI filled and graded the entire site with over 150,000 tons of clean fill to set final grade.

PSE&G hired JINGOLI again to meet the obligations for building the Switchyard within a Newark Community Neighborhood. JINGOLI engineered, procured, and constructed a 25' tall, fully functional, and architecturally pleasing enclosure wall with an accommodation of 14 pieces of public art from six local Newark artists.

JINGOLI team of managers and engineers successfully worked through complicated challenges in complex and fluid. An example of complexity during the project is wind loading four large oversized cantilevered entrance gates to accommodate the functionality and maintainability of an active High Voltage Switching Station. The High Voltage Switching station had to be architecturally clad in solid aluminum panels. An example of a fluid issue during the project is the mounting of very diverse artwork on the precast panels. To finalize the enclosure wall scope, JINGOLI installed all new curb, sidewalk, and landscaping, further beautifying the neighborhood's property.
